Wisdom Teeth Removal in South Jordan, UT

Utah’s Third Molar Experts

Wisdom teeth are known as third molars. They develop around the age of 17, and most dentists and oral surgeons recommend having them extracted as soon as possible. There is not enough space in the mouth for an extra set of molars. Leaving them untreated puts your oral health at risk, and your other teeth could suffer as well. If your dentist discovers that third molars are developing, he or she will refer you to an oral surgeon for evaluation.

If you suspect the presence of wisdom teeth and would like a consultation, or if you have been referred to us, please call our South Jordan office to schedule an appointment. Dr. Harris, Dr. Park, Dr. Brown, Dr. Wood, and Dr. Holladay will create a custom treatment plan based on your specific wisdom teeth removal needs.

Advantages of Wisdom Teeth Removal

Our oral surgeons at Utah Surgical Arts regularly perform wisdom tooth extractions. By undergoing this procedure, you are protecting your health and preventing numerous complications from having the chance to appear. For example, it is not uncommon for a wisdom tooth to grow sideways. This is called impaction, and an impacted wisdom tooth is trapped beneath gums, angled toward your other molars. It can push other teeth out of place, destroy roots, and damage nerves. An impacted tooth is difficult to clean, and can lead to cysts and tumors.

You can avoid these complications and many more by having your wisdom teeth extracted at Utah Surgical Arts in South Jordan, UT. When left to develop on their own, wisdom teeth are known to cause:

  • Pain, swelling, jaw stiffness, tenderness
  • Bad breath due to infection
  • Gum disease, which can progress to irreversible tooth decay
  • Cysts and tumors
  • Cavities due to bacterial buildup
  • Dental shifting

Our trusted surgeons at Utah Surgical Arts have safely extracted wisdom teeth for years. We will customize a treatment plan that delivers the highest level of care before, during, and after your procedure. Contact our South Jordan office today to schedule your consultation.

The Wisdom Teeth Removal Procedure

During your consultation appointment at our South Jordan office, your oral surgeon will review your medical history and perform a thorough examination of your mouth and jaw. This includes taking 3D CBCT scans. Your surgical options, as well as your anesthesia and sedation options, will be discussed and determined, and any questions that you may have will be answered. This procedure is often performed using IV sedation, allowing you to rest in a sleep-like state during surgery.

Your procedure will begin according to your customized treatment plan, with the administration of the chosen anesthetic. When undergoing IV sedation, you must arrange for an adult to be present at the office during surgery and drive you home after. The adult should remain with you for 24 hours, as you will still be under the effects of anesthesia.

Impacted or partially erupted third molars may need to be broken up before removal. Exposed teeth can simply be pulled out using forceps. Any incisions will be stitched closed, and you will rest in our comfortable recovery area until you are awake enough to be driven home.

AAAHC Accreditation

Utah Surgical Arts is approved by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). If your surgery can be performed at Utah Surgical Arts, the cost savings may be significant. Many patients who were unable to have the procedure due to the high cost involved were able to have the procedure performed at Utah Surgical Arts.

"Hi. My name is Amy, and I am a mother of five boys, and three of my sons have come here to Utah Surgical Arts to have their wisdom teeth pulled. They each had kind of unique circumstances and so we were a little nervous about it, but Dr. Park was wonderful at calming their fears, and he just did a great job. My first son had seven wisdom teeth, and so he was a little nervous about his recovery. Then, my second son had six wisdom teeth, and he was nervous about shots. Then, my third son was actually in the fourth grade so he was just nervous because he was young and didn’t really understand about going under and things like that. Dr. Park was wonderful with them. He was real personal; he sat down with each one of them and kind of calmed their fears. He’s funny and kind of cool, and the boys like him. So it just really put their fears at rest. We are grateful for Dr. Park, and my two other boys, when they need their wisdom teeth, we will be here in this office to get them done."

"Two of my daughters had their wisdom teeth removed last year here. Dr. Harris was really good with Jordan. She was a little nervous — she doesn’t like to have any medical procedures done. He was able to calm her down, and she went through the surgery and did really well. Dr. Brown was the one that did Allison, and he was just very friendly, very thorough, made her feel very comfortable. In fact, Allison, when she was done, she didn’t even know that she had had the procedure done. The staff is very friendly, very thorough; they asked [if there were] any questions they are able to answer, and really put you at ease and made you feel like you’re going to be safe in their hands. If any of my friends in Lehi, Manti, or Salem needed to have any dental work done, I would send them to Utah Surgical Arts."

"Hi, my name's Jake Craft. I’m from Lindon, Utah, and I came to Utah Surgical Arts for my wisdom teeth and also for a couple different crown lengthening sessions. I really enjoyed my experience here with Dr. Harris and his staff because it was very quick and easy, and I was comfortable the entire time. I have a lot of friends in Alpine, Lehi, American Fork, Spanish Fork, and I always recommend that they come get any sort of dental work — like wisdom teeth or crown lengthening — done here because the staff is extremely friendly, and they go out of their way to make you feel comfortable throughout the entire procedure."

"My name is Jantz. I am from Provo. I had my wisdom teeth removed here at USA. For myself, I would say this practice is very professional. The staff here is very friendly, from the receptionist — very welcoming — and everyone else along the way, both before and especially after my procedure. Dr. Park is a very friendly man, very welcoming and just a great person, easy to talk to and made me just feel very comfortable with what was going on. The surgery went well. The staff was excellent at helping me to recover quickly and to feel comfortable. I would say overall, I had an excellent experience here. "My wisdom teeth in my upper mouth started to push my bite in the top, and my sister works in Utah Surgical Arts, so she recommended her place to come get my wisdom teeth out. I was a little bit nervous to have this experience and be unconscious for a little bit. I don't really remember all of it, but I remember post-op, I was fine. I didn't feel any pain immediately or anything, and I had a very easy recovery period. I would recommend Utah Surgical Arts to a lot of my friends. They offer very good prices, they're a very professional and helpful team, and they were very nice to me, and I think they are very good at what they do, and I feel safe."

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I have dry socket or normal pain?

Dry socket occurs when the blood clot inside of the empty tooth socket becomes dislodged. It is very painful, as the nerve and bone underneath become exposed. If you suspect dry socket or are in a great amount of pain beyond what is expected following surgery, please contact our office. It is common to feel some degree of discomfort following any type of surgical procedure, but this is usually managed with over-the-counter pain medications, ice packs, and rest.

Can I get all four wisdom teeth removed at once?

We recommend having all wisdom teeth extracted at the same time. This prevents the need for additional procedures, and you can eliminate the risk factors associated with third molars in one single surgical visit.

How long is recovery after having wisdom teeth pulled?

You can expect to resume normal activities a day or two following surgery. You will need to take care of your surgical sites, which take about 2 weeks to heal, by following the instructions we provide.

What happens if I don’t have an impacted tooth removed?

An impacted wisdom tooth may or may not cause pain. Your dentist will check for wisdom teeth during regular checkups. Wisdom teeth are large, and if one grows sideways, it can damage adjacent teeth. These teeth have naturally large, unpredictable nerves that can grow in sporadic directions, puncturing nearby nerves and the roots of other teeth. It’s possible for an impacted tooth to not cause any pain now, but suddenly a great deal of pain if a nerve is struck later in life.

Impacted teeth can partially erupt, making it difficult to clean around. When bacteria builds up around a tooth, cysts and tumors begin to form. These can be painful, and lead to the progression of periodontal disease, tooth decay, and many other problems. Avoid these issues by having wisdom teeth extracted at Utah Surgical Arts.
